August 23, 2014
Go Far Woman is a women's only running event that held it's inaugural race on August 24, 2013 with more than 1,700 women participating in 3 events. It helped to raise money for the Essentia NICU with Newt Running, and organization formed in honor of the late Dr. Renee Schwandt. In 2014, we are going to do it again - this time in grander style, with more races (adding a 10K!) and with more zest for the purpose behind the race! Go Far Woman celebrates the strength, perseverance and courage of women - all ages, all types and all athletic abilities!
Please join us in the 2nd annual GO FAR WOMAN Race on August 23, 2014!
Dr. Schwandt was an OB/GYN physician at Essentia Health from 2000 until July 8, 2003 at the time of her passing at age 38. She worked with many women & families in the Fargo/Moorhead community and touched lives everywhere she went. Her mission in life was to help others - in any way that she could. She served on two medical mission trips, one to Haiti, and the other to Jamaica. Her younger sisters, Sue Knutson & Amy O'Neill served on Mission Jamaica in 2004, the year after Renee served and passed away. There they found out just how giving Renee was and how she touched people everywhere.
Because of Dr. Renee's service to Essentia, Go Far Woman 5K & Half Marathon will be donating a portion of the proceeds to the Essentia NICU. Having a newborn child in the NICU is extremely difficult and can be emotionally and financially draining. By giving back to the Essentia NICU, we hope to provide some assistance for medical equipment and support to the families.
